Sherritt Announces Appointment of New Directors

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 22, 2009) - 


Sherritt International Corporation ("Sherritt") (TSX:S) today announced the appointment of John R. Moses and R. Peter Gillin as Directors, effective January 1, 2010. Messrs. Moses and Gillin will stand for election by shareholders as Directors at the Sherritt Annual General Meeting in May 2010.

Mr. Moses brings over thirty years of exploration and development experience in the mineral and power generation sectors. He serves on the Boards of a number of resource companies and is the Director/Co-founder of Gilead Power Corporation and Gilead Mineral Corporation, Co-Founder Niskibi Power Corporation and is the President and a Director of Wabassi River Resources and Winteroad Mineral Corporation.

Mr. Gillin brings extensive experience in mining and corporate finance, most recently serving as President and CEO at both Tahera Diamond Corporation and Zemex Corporation. In addition, he has served as Vice Chairman of NM Rothschild & Sons Canada Securities Limited and as head of both the mining finance and corporate finance groups at Scotia McLeod Inc.

Sherritt also announced that Jowdat Waheed has resigned from the Board of Directors and is leaving the Corporation. "Jowdat has been a key part of the evolution of companies bearing the Sherritt name since 1990. I thank him for his valuable contributions and dedication, and wish him and his family all the best," said Mr. Delaney.
