Sherritt's Prairie Operations run eight mine-mouth mines in Alberta and Saskatchewan. These mining operations supply electricity generation companies with coal under secure long-term contracts. Production in 2009 from Sherritt's mine-mouth operations was 35.4 million tonnes.

Sherritt also holds a portfolio of mineral rights located in Alberta and Saskatchewan on which it earns royalties from the mining of coal and potash.

In addition to its current operations, Sherritt is looking at potential growth opportunities with new mine site developments and activated carbon.
