Health and Safety

Sherritt ranks consistently among the best health and safety performers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and internationally, when compared to other companies involved in surface mining, processing, oil and gas, and power generation. We strive for a zero lost-time injury (“LTI”) rate among our workforce. We accomplished this goal at many of our sites in 2009. Highlights include:

Sherritt's Sheerness coal mine was given the CIM John T. Ryan Award in 2009 and passed 14 years with no recordable LTI's.

Other operations passsing milestones in 2009 included the Highvale mine with one year free of an LTI, the Whitewood, Boundary Dam and Bienfait mines passed the five-year milestone, while the Genesee mine passed its 21st year with no reportable LTI's.

In 2009, the Fort Saskatchewan and Moa plants each recorded three-million LTI-free hours.
