Communities - Cuba Sherritt contributes funds and equipment to Cuba’s hospitals, schools and other public facilities. Sherritt’s ongoing contributions to infrastructure and institutions in Cuba have been formalized into a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program. With the support of Cuba’s Ministry of Basic Industry, the priorities for the program are established on the basis of input from municipal and provincial governments. The Program provides support for public infrastructure projects in Moa, Cardenas, Matanzas and Santa Cruz del Norte.
Street Lighting
A street-lighting project to refurbish damaged street lights and install new ones, began in 2006 after consultation with local governments. The project has installed public lighting along roads in many cities including Moa, Cardenas, Matanzas and Santa Cruz. Additional materials have been supplied to enable maintenance and repair of the lighting.
Public Transportation
Sherritt supported public transportation in the city of Moa by donating buses to the city. Sherritt also funded the purchase of spare parts for the buses, to allow their continued service to the people of Moa.
